Louis is a consultant in the Property Department at Minde Schapiro & Smith and specialises in township and commercial developments which includes the preparation and drafting of complicated sale agreements and servitudes and the obtaining of land use approvals from the Local Authority. With more than 40 years’ experience practicing as an attorney and conveyancer, Louis has covered all aspects of conveyancing, from transfers of residential land, registration of home-loans and covering bonds to sheriff transfers of land sold in execution and transfers from insolvent / deceased estates.
Louis served for 15 years on the Property Law Committee of the now defunct Cape Law Society and played a valuable role in dealing with the Registrar of Deeds in respect of matters affecting conveyancers in general and also with the rates department of the City of Cape Town on ongoing issues involving rates clearances. Although the Property Law Committee has been disbanded, Louis is still approached by the City from time to time on issues affecting the profession.
Through his wealth of experience he has developed exceptional client-care skills together with a strong verbal and written communication skills. He always strives to protect the interests of both the seller and purchaser to ensure a smooth transfer process all the way to finalisation of registration.
Louis spends most of his spare time riding his mountain bike and his holiday destinations are usually game reserves in South Africa or neighbouring countries. He is also a keen photographer.

Marais has been a consultant in the Conveyancing Department of Minde Schapiro & Smith since 2016. After 17 years of specialising in property transfers and bond registrations and serving on the panels of various financial institutions, he has gained a wealth of knowledge in these fields of expertise. Committed to delivering service excellence, he upholds strong ethical standards.
Marais obtained BA and LLB degrees from the University of Stellenbosch in 1992 and 1994 respectively. In 1995 he was appointed as a Candidate Legal Practitioner at Kessler De Jager Inc, where he remained as a Professional Assistant upon being admitted as an Attorney in 1997, mainly dealing in Criminal law, Civil litigation, Estates, Road Accident Fund claims and Conveyancing.
In 1998 he was a founding partner at the firm Kemp, Hoon and Fourie Attorneys, where he started and headed up the conveyancing leg of the practice, after being admitted as a conveyancer.
In 2005 he established Marais Hoon Attorneys, with its focus being primarily on conveyancing, Road Accident Fund claims and Estates.
Marais also enjoys the outdoors. In his spare time he partakes in many activities which include boating and trail running.

Profile:
Desiree graduated from the University of Stellenbosch in 1994 after obtaining a BA Law and an LLB degree.
After back packing overseas for one year she joined the prestigious firm, Jan S De Villiers in Cape Town as a candidate attorney in 1996. She was admitted as an attorney and conveyancer in 1997, and in 1998 she joined Faure & Faure Inc as a professional assistant specialising in conveyancing with a special interest in property development.
After 10 years at the firm, she took some time off to raise her two sons. During this period, she delivered pro bono legal advice to the employees of the family business, Fair Cape Dairies, as well as to victims of gender based violence.
From 2021 until 2024 she joined the firm Kemp Nabal Inc to further her career as a consultant specialising in conveyancing and commercial law.
Desiree has a heart for the under privileged and enjoys giving back to the community by doing pro bono work for those who cannot afford legal advice.
In her spare time, when she is not spending time with her family and her two dogs, she enjoys running, hiking and mountain biking and has competed in numerous events including two Absa Cape Epics.

Pat Stilwell

Profile:
Pat is the Labour Law specialist in the practice.
After graduating from the University of Natal with the BALLB degrees more than forty years ago he served articles with a well-known Pietermaritzburg firm in the litigation department. For twenty years he worked exclusively in the fields of criminal, civil, and human rights litigation before deciding to specialise in the new and developing area of labour law.
In 1997 he became a part time commissioner of the CCMA – a position he still holds. Since becoming a Commissioner he has presided in more than 1000 arbitrations. He is also a member of the panel of mediators and arbitrators of the General Public Service Bargaining Council and the National Bargaining Council for the Private Security Sector. He is the author of two books and a one-time lecturer in Evidence and Criminal Procedure at the University Of KwaZulu-Natal. In 2018 he was awarded Honorary life Membership of the KwaZulu-Natal law society in recognition of his service to the profession in the field of legal education.

Marianne Olivier

Profile:
Marianne completed her BCom Law and LLB degrees at the University of Stellenbosch in 1998 and 2000 respectively. She studied further and attained an LLM in Corporate Law at the University of Pretoria in 2005. Marianne qualified as a Conveyancer in 2004 and was admitted as a Solicitor of England and Wales in 2006.
Marianne joined Minde Schapiro & Smith as a consultant in 2015. She also has her own offices in Pretoria where she specialises in sectional title developments.
